Florida seems to be climbing up the ranks as fast as New York in coronavirus cases in the country. It currently holds the fifth most amount of cases in the United States, most of them being in Southeast Florida and neighboring areas. In light of the president extending CDC guidelines throughout the month of April, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis felt it was appropriate to execute stricter rules in the Sunshine State.
Florida isn’t the only state whose governor has issued a state-wide stay-at-home order. Apparently, other governors have already taken action to secure the safety of their residents. Some states are New York, California, Pennsylvania, Washington state, New Jersey, Arizona, and many more states. The list continues to go up. Surprisingly, Florida was added to that list only a couple of hours ago, although it was already ranking in fifth place of most cases, more than many of these states.
“Given the unique situation in Florida I’m going to be doing an executive order today directing all Floridians to limit movements and personal interactions outside the home to only those necessary to obtain or provide essential services or conduct essential activities,” DeSantis said earlier today at a conference.
Governor DeSantis was probably hoping this issue could’ve been resolved within the government officials of the counties in Florida with the most cases. But unfortunately, the numbers continue to increase and it looks like now he’s not taking any more chances.
While many people continue to criticize him for delays in his decision, we must all be aware that this is all new to our nation and our country. Our country hasn’t been under a medical emergency. The health of our people haven’t been threatened for as long as people can remember. I feel like as situations continue to arise, all of us are learning more, as well, on how to deal with the situations at a faster pace.
Thankfully, once this is all set and done, I’m sure there will be more strategies taken into effect to prevent this from spreading like it has done. This is all bring us together as Americans, and we must continue to be diligent and remaining steadfast in prayer and in the spirit. There’s no clear direction as to how long this can last, but I am sure that everyone is on the president’s side this time. Everyone is hoping that his decisions will prompt the fastest eradication of this disease.
